In a very pleasant and polite exchange earlier today I was asked a simple question and did not have an answer. The question was
The system is near to breaking point as it is, there isnt a magic pot of money to build new family homes, which is the only was to reduce the transfer list. May I ask if you had control of the Housing Train set what you would do?
I don't have an answer but does anyone else bearing in mind we can't go back in time to fix things where (and if) previous (or current) governments got it wrong?
It might be of value to consider even the most unpalatable of options such as having yet another form of tenure or even 'welfare housing. or 'pay for what you get housing' (lower rents in exchange for lower services and standards?).
