I agree with all you say Harvey, and I have already said all older people should be treated the same, both for care, TV lic etc. Its just a shame that SH which was built for those retired people who had housing problems was not kept within the guide lines over the last few years, but not at the cost of elderly living in the community.
This fight is not a way forward in my eyes (and lots of my fellow SH manager collegues) as due to the restrictions now in place, the SM cannot do much more than call the emg services, paper work etc. Bringing them back as resident, would be a waste of resources, but keeping Managers to work in one scheme as their base, but visiting the local comm would be a better option than having floating staff, which none of the elderly may know.
This should be the fight, and is half way between resident and floating. Some Council's have gone this way, and it appears to be working well.
What worries me is the article I read about possible future plans for SM to be taken away from the local authories, and go to tender of company's simular to the Care agencies! and we all know that has never worked. That's when the fight will really be needed.
