I must believe I find it hard to believe that anyone is paid more than the Prime Minister!! It's hardly the benchmark to compare against. However unlike the general consensus I believe that if you wish to get quality professional leaders you have to pay the market rate. The sector is in direct competition with the private sector more and more (shared ownership, outright sale, private care provision, maintenance contracts etc) so unfortunately if you pay 2nd rate salaries you get 2nd rate staff. The larger HAs are now multi-million pound organisations employing 1000s of staff, with salary rates still below private sector levels. And contrary to comments on this thread, the CEOs do not award themselves huge salaries, they are governed by an independent board.
