ALMO was and is always going to be an acronym covering up inefficiency, waste of money and the doubling up of staff!!!
For goodness sake, "doubling up of staff", why do we constantly have to put up with the inadequate management practices of councils and then have to, as tax payers, fund their lunacies?
The recently released WECH Report by Professor Peter Ambrose entitled "Happiness, Heaven and Hell in Paddington" demonstrates one very successful and cost efficient form of social housing management. Surprise, surprise, it does not involve council management any more than it involves the private sector.
This model of social housing management has been globally recognised by the World Health Organisation as being in the top ten of models in the world and yet, even though we have it right here in London, we have to put up with ALMO nonsense.
The question I would pose is when is it we are actually going to evolve sane and practical management policies and standards in housing? In order to do this there needs to be more than a sea change there needs to be a concerted effort by all involved in housing policy to demand that government take housing seriously.
