Oh dear, a Freudian slip supports the assertion that it was the Private Landlords wot dunit!
How can this be news to the government when it has been the policy direction for 30-years to increase the 'viability' (dependence) of the private sector by reducing the availability of the social sector and supporting rent escalation by private landlords - laundering £bns of taxpayer cash into their enterprises.
The solution remains to reverse the cause - the removal of regulation has seen rents rocket and the benefit bill become unaffordable. Regulation of rents can reverse this, without unfairly burdening the poor.
Perhaps the Mininster should look down from the parapits and see the situations people are living in so he may understand that bit better.
