What a farcical idea this is. Anyone that works in SH will be aware the vast amount of box ticking and hoop jumping that has to take place prior to any public £££ being awarded.
Just to clear up a couple of points at the start of this discussion; RPs are expecting less that 20% grant for future developments and; HB isn't paid to RPs as public subsidy, it's paid to claimants who then choose to spend it where they wish. So, I'm with SocialHousingWorks on this one, I think it's the claimants that need to be scrutinized!
One a more serious note, how do people imagine this information will be used? How should it be presented? Is it reasonable that business sensitive data should be shared? RPs are already required to bid competitively (and tender) so how would they drive VFM if everyone new each others costs.
Whilst public funding is used by RPs it has to be remembered that the reason they can build a new house with only 20% funding and then charge a discounted rent is because they take risks by borrowing money privately. What I'm saying is that they back themselves far more than the govt do and so their already exists a far more pressing reason to run the organisations efficiently.
Everyone imagines themselves to be a financial expert, but your not, and finance directors are. that's why we give them the responsibility and a £60k salary.
