How typical of PSR to support an issue that he clearly has no real experience of. Another excuse to apply his blinkered, broad rhetoric of Tory bashing without any understanding of the issues at hand. As someone who has over 10 years experience of supporting rough sleepers on the streets of Westminster, I wholly support this move. For far too long homeless charities have been frustrated at this kind of misplaced philathropy, that enables the vulnerable and marginalised to sustain a steet lifestyle, regardless of the detrimental impact on their physical or mental health. This kind of 'handout' enables too many of those with chronic substance use issues to sustain a lifestyle detrimental to their well-being and far too often (for those of us who have to pick up the pieces) can contribute to their untimely demise. I would suggest that Alistair extends his 'dialogue' to include those of us who house and support rough sleepers 365 days a year, before he trivialises our contribution as, 'not being good enough'. If only the solution to the individual, complex issues of each rough sleeper was, 'too buy them a cup of tea'. Then we could all sit back and allow finally put this issue to bed once and for all! For the record, there is sufficient supply of temporary housing and support services for those who need it. Our greatest challenge is encouraging the entrenched homeless that this is a better alternative than living on the streets -a point somewhat trivialised by the naive actions of Housing Justice et al!
