I used to understand exactly what was meant by the term 'social inequality' and campaigned to some extent to redress a presumed imbalance. However, there is a huge inequality between the super rich elites and the rest of the population; the vast majority of that population struggle with all manner of variant social/financial difficulties. However, there is only one tiny segment of that population given to muggings and shocked to read, beating animals with bars together with blasting life to smithereens. Gang culture with the dumb-down rapbeats do not help; the media exposure specifically targeting this ill educated and largely fatherless youth is largely to blame for acting out in real life what is heard and seen without the maturity or intelligence to discern that there is and should be a huge difference. Life is becoming bargain basement pound shop value and tackling social inequalities as you put it is meaningless and not an answer or solution. Turning the tv off is a start, encouraging independent private thought via reading is a good second. Books are available to everyone, so there's no excuse. Ah, what about rising illiteracy levels? Again, tv, texting, look-see lazy brain technology is largely the culprit here as well. Of course, the drudgery of work for little pay that is witnessed of parents, with little or no 'play' or creativity (TV again) is hardly an incentive to engage. Educational range and content via schooling is also by rote indoctrination. Enliven these areas and forget about that mantra of 'social inequality' which we all share.
