I don't know, Alpha. Utility firms are perhaps a little different from other service providers, since the cost of their product is partially out of their hands.
They pipe (or cable!) energy to your home, but they can't stop global costs from rising. The key thing is to ask yourself why energy is more expensive than it was before. It's a complex issue... Housing, energy consumption and our relationship with the planet are all closely linked.
Politicians, on the other hand, don't look at things holistically. They are more interested in conflict resolution and influencing public opinion than in actually fixing global problems. They are also in the pockets of the people who cause these issues. Corrupt? I think politicos prefer to think of themselves are prudent or pragmatic. But no, they're corrupt!
