Incidentally, I should qualify my previous comments by saying that I am strongly in favour of building Affordable Housing where there is a proven need for it - even in an AONB if the need is extreme enough to justify it and there is nowhere more suitable available.
What I detest more than anything is people trying to justify a development by fabricating the evidence of the need for it, as they did in my village and as is currently happening all over the country.
We need rigorous, independent and publicly transparent auditing of all planning decisions involving proposals to build in the open countryside.
At present the only appeals process operates in support of the developer. We also need an appeals process that can help protect the open countryside from exploitation by developers.
