Firstly there is a similar proportion paying rent supported by HB in the private sector (what was it 45% at last count?), yet the amount being paid is vastly higher case by case (I'm sure Joe will be along with the figures before long.)
Secondly, very few of the poor are in a position to negotiate better terms and conditions, especially since anti-union laws have played to the flexible low wage market. What do you suggest - that they work 24-7.
The parasitical private sector picking up the former social sector homes and then renting them out at massively higher rents is hardly cause for celebration, nor proof of superiority of method.
