I think that's right, but it seems this government has successfully convinced much of the public that:
- social housing tenants are slackers who should be punished for taking advantage of the benefits system
- the 'lazy consensus' in social housing is a reality
- the private rented sector should be left unregulated in the name of neo-con free market capitalism. And this despite the fact that the standard of homes in the PRS is often very low... Naturally Mr Shapps wouldn't know this; or if he does he believes that it'll sort itself out. Perhaps he thinks his garden will dig itself too, I have no idea.
I don't know how the govt. can justify selling off council homes during a very obvious housing crisis. You don't have to be a genius to see that doing this under such adverse conditions will make things worse.
For what little it's worth I applaud the NHF for its stance.
