Ive typed out 3 long replies, but they are not being posted! - I will l leave a short reply now (Are there reasons why my replies have not been seen? there was nothing wrong or abusive!)
Anyway, back to your comments. Firstly, after explaining about your mum and dad buying, then selling their council house - you say 'no profiteering here' - well, sorry, but of course there is profit here - presumably, the house (now bungalow) will, eventually, be left to you (and your siblings) ? Well, had the RTB not been brought in, the original house would still be a council house, and there would be no property to be left! This is a PROFIT!
You also say, you 'couldn't' have done these nice things to the house had it remained a council house. Well, Ive been a council tenant for more than 30 years, live in a small 2 bed terraced house, and have transformed the place! In very bad condition when I moved in (18 years ago) I have not only made it a lovely home, but saved the Local council thousands of pounds by putting in my own kitchen, and bathroom (which they carried out as 'council repairs' a few years ago!
Several of my neighbours bought their homes under the right to buy scheme - for between £24.000 and £28, 000 - which they have now sold for big profits! One sold for £250,000 - nice profit eh?
I could have bought my terrace house for the same - (it would have cost less than to pay rent at that time) but I wouldn't dream of it. My principles, I know, but it does make you mad when, now, the vile, unjust and unfair 'Bedroom Tax' is being brought in to 'allegedly' free up space in our little houses for families on the council housing list, when they are STILL selling off the ones that remain!
Angry is not the word for it!
