Rick - "Giving the electorate what they say they want may not always the wisest thing to do -- a bit like giving into children who 'want' various things that are bad for them"
Your little nugget of a statement above made me think of the key lines from "A Few Good Men" -
Daniel Kaffee: "I want the truth"
Col Jessep: "You can't handle the truth!"
At last, a mainstream politician has had the nerve to recognise what a lot of less prominent people have been saying for a long time but have then been condemned over. Perhaps this is the dawning of a new age of frankness and openness, where "political correctness" does not set the rules of engagement and potentially uncomfortable facts will no longer be denied but will be dealt with openly, honestly and objectively.
As I said once before, pigs may sprout wings first, but hope springs eternal.
