    Constipated, Mr Holmes?

    Rick Campbell's comment | 03/02/2012 6:33 pm

I am of the charitable belief that some posters ..... you should know the script by now.

The best way to help the poor, vulnerable, disabled is to make them homeless and starve then to death ... extreme opinion -- yes it is, but then again, so are many others on IH threads.

It wouldn't do for us all to be the same AND it would be boring.

For those who are delighting in seeing people suffer I proffer a few thoughts ---

If it's real fairness that you're after then why not advocate going for the REAL drain on our welfare system, the BIGGEST one? Tax Credits ... £billions can be saved there ... won't affect anybody of importance … only pensioners, children and the low paid!

    The government's next target?

Then compulsory sterilisation to relieve the UK of the financial burden? -- we've already had the stigmatisation of sections of the population especially the poor, vulnerable and the disabled -- "life unworthy of life"?

To complement measures already in place there is a simplification of the health system going on. History could be being replicated either by accident or design -- it’s a really harsh world we are living in and it’s getting harsher.

Welfare reform has made/will make exactly who better off, has it created/will it create a single job (loads will be lost as the job centres vanish), has it/will it cost less?

Remember people, -- you and/or loved ones could be struck down at any time or in later years with disability, vulnerability and/or poverty --- what then?

Learn from the past, don’t replicate it!

  • Comment on: Anger as government halts welfare bill changes

    Rick Campbell's comment | 03/02/2012 6:00 pm

The government are liars and cowards -- pure and simple.

When the voters realise this they will vote them back in --- the Opposition are liars too.

There are the odd exceptions though.

The extreme parties will have a field day.

There are enough extremist posters in the media fuelling discontent .... there are very few who will oppose such views.

Tin foil hat, cloth cap or dunce's cap anyone?

The quality of opposition in the House of Commons was woefully poor … the quality on IH was far superior especially from those not directly being hurt by ‘welfare reform’.

There is, at the time of writing, a thread elsewhere on IH about a legal 'threat' to a Large Scale Voluntary Transfer.

The Pollitical Party Season is upon us. Already there has been a difference of opinion on the Affordable Rent issue --
So, should there be an Affordable Rent level AND a Social Rent level

People have different views about welfare reform, benefits and how people live on benefits. I cite the following case below and ask what typical level of benefit (exclusive of housing costs) SHOULD exist for ….

    gas (heating/hot water)
    electricity (lighting/cooking)
    food
    water costs
    TV licence
other expenses (transport, insurance, communications, etc.)
    a) someone (say, of my age -- that’s 61 in July), single and who is disabled
    b) someone single not disabled
    c) per child of a single parent family
    d) per child of a 2 parent family.
    REAL LIFE CASE ….

Working age disabled person allocated £40-53 to live on for a week including costs of :

    gas (heating/hot water)
    electricity (lighting/cooking)
    food
transport to and from doctors (twice)
Transport to and from hospital (twice),
    water costs
    TV licence

NOT EXACTLY A KING’S RANSOM or even generous is it?

THE GAS EXPENDITURE WAS REDUCED TO ZERO, A GENUINE CASE OF HEAT OR EAT! And it’s sub-zero temperatures here in leafy Cheshire.

Yet the local MP got the lion’s share of £200,000 for HIS expenses last year.

We are having a get together (hot turkey butties, mince pies and a cuppa) on a first come. first served basis -- it's the only chance that tenant board members, tenant inspectors and 'resident register' tenants get to meet up with each other as our scrutiny regime ensures that if you fit into one catergory/element, you can't participate in the others,

There are no tenant-led (although there are some 50/50) groups -- everything IS staff-led although the 'residents register' element is striving for a 50/50 split in their groups -- 2 groups have met, and both are 50/50 (ish) to the satisfaction of the tenants concerned albeit that numbers attending may be depleted because of the 'can only be involved in one of the 3 basic 'catergory/elements' .

    Peter,

Just had this snippet from the IH "TSA sets out fresh approach to regulation" thread

    Hi Rick

Then as I did you must request to see all the documentation regarding your Stock Transfer Agreement from your local authority, using the Freedom Of Information Act 2000. Be prepared for a shock as I was allowed one hour to wade through bundles of folders and documents wheeled in to the Councils reading room in a rather large shopping trolley !

That's what I'm trying to establish for tenants/leaseholders Peter .. if it's possible and, therefore, in the process establish the level of transparency but I ain't holding my breath.

    That's you targetted then?

I have made my landlord aware of the thread -- and other trusted tenants too.
