Rok administrator makes 711 redundant
The administrator for stricken contractor Rok has announced 711 redundancies.
Pricewaterhouse Coopers has announced there will be 558 job losses in Rok’s maintenance business, 82 from construction, 69 in the Scotland plumbing heating and electrical business and two in head office.
Mike Jervis, joint administrator for PWC, said: ‘Regrettably, the redundancies made today were necessary for economic reasons where there has been little or no interest in the business from prospective purchasers or where there was insufficient work for staff to carry out.
‘In the case of the maintenance and improvements division, we are rationalising the national network to slim down areas where there is not enough work for employees, principally in the build division.’
Rok, which last year had social housing revenues of £204 million, entered administration on Monday. It followed an announcement in August that its operating profit had halved to £4.5 million.
PWC said it has received more than 100 expressions of interest in the business and is drawing up a shortlist of potential buyers.
Mears and Morgan Sindall have both said they are potentially interested in acquiring some of the Rok contracts and are both waiting for more information from PWC.
