Share feedback on snap inspections

The article on short notice inspections was well-researched and informative (Inside Housing, 26 February). I spoke to your journalist about getting the most out of SNI. Perhaps he didn’t have the room to include my main point.

For me, the formal reports don’t add much. It would be cheaper and better to put the final strengths and weaknesses feedback from inspectors on the Audit Commission website so that fellow professionals could learn from them.

Instead of writing a formal report that few read, inspectors should pen a short, sharp letter to tenants. Tenants could use that to challenge (or indeed praise) their landlord from an informed position. The inspectors put tremendous skill and energy into the SNI programme - let’s not waste it.
