Empty homes target in bill for Wales
The Welsh housing minister has hinted at setting a target for affordable housing and empty homes in the forthcoming housing white paper.
In a debate in the Senedd on Tuesday, Huw Lewis said he would set a target for empty properties alongside ‘a range of other targets’, which are thought to include affordable housing.
The details will be published in a housing white paper, which the minister will launch on 21 May ahead of a housing bill for Wales.
The Chartered Institute of Housing in Wales and Community Housing Cymru, which represents Welsh landlords, have called on the government to set an affordable housing target of at least 8,000 homes for the period up to 2015.
