It all costs money - ultimately you get what you pay for - land is scarce and developers cram people into the smallest space they can get away with.

    No easy answers.

Rick Campbell has the right idea - help only those that ask - many would like to be left alone - rather than be patronised and directed to change their chosen lifestyle.

This is mad - why chase people to find a role for your charity? If there are homeless and they are in real need - will find a way to contact you - don't waste money finding or inventing homeless to justify your existence.

Excellent idea - choice based letting diverted scarce resources from councils addressing needs within their area of responsibility - and social housing is after all a matter of housing those in need - not a lifestyle choice at the taxpayers' expense. So good luck and hope other councils will follow.

Entropy is the ability of a working fluid to do work - regrettably loading councils with debt could in time tie them into the Gordonian knot - local authorities are not known for their business or engineering skills and best for them to proceed with caution. I won't deposit my savings with my local authority - why should banks consider them good risk?
