28 new affordable homes consisting of both separate semi-detached houses and one, three-storey block of flats. There will be two one-bed flats, four two-bed flats, 13 two-bed houses and nine three-bed houses, one of which will be made suitable for a wheelchair bound resident. The site is completed with 51 parking spaces and makes use of micro-renewable technology in the shape of solar roof tiles.

A £2.5 million project to bring the first wave of affordable housing in a generation to Sandwell, West Midlands, has been completed.

Contractor Masonry Frame Systems completed the aircrete inner shell of 39 new build houses and flats two weeks ahead of schedule at the Pinefields development in Addlestone, despite last winter being the coldest for decades. This was made possible by using the H+H Rå Build method of construction with thin-jointed aircrete block-work.

Timber frame construction has enjoyed a near monopoly with social housing developers in the last decade, possibly as this building method is perceived to be quicker and cheaper than the alternatives. However, contractors are starting to look again at other options and coming up with some surprising conclusions.
