Welcome to Inside Housing's new website. The site has been designed to be easy to use and help you find information you require.
We're also keen to encourage debate on the site. We've set up a community section where you can talk to other housing professionals, and see what people are saying.
Things aren't set in stone, however. So if you have comments and ideas about further improvements we can make let us know.

i had problems logging in under my user name - so re-registered, also will you be archiving the discussions on the original forum? or making them live again - there were some interesting debates on there - still ongoing when you launched the new website

Hi Marty,
We are having a few problems with registration. Thanks for sticking with it, and I'll try to get it sorted out.
We weren't going to move much across from the old forum, but if there are particular topics you want to continue let me know.
Tom

maybe transfer over the threads with over 10 replies - ? i'm sure there are some of the old regulars who would like to continue the debates...

Well, I must blinked or missed something, but I found very strange for a website who claims to encourage debate to update to a new website without any warning in obliterating the ongoing forums of the older website... there were thousands of members and hundreds of posters with many interesting - and as I said still ongoing - threads - which contained and incredible richness of informations and opinions... I would have thought posters and people who have been loyally using forums with keen motivations in your old site would have deserved at least the courtesy of a warning you were going to obliterate them so they could save the threads they were interested in... I would suggest that you bring the old site forum online at least as archives.

to be fair, there was warning, they had a big ticker counting down the days and hours to the launch - but i agree that some of the older threads should at least be available to view

Was the ticker on the old website main page then? I was going straingt into the forum of the old website - bypassign the home page - so maybe that's why I did not see it... Still, to think all those contribustion of 3,000 members not being available to browse at least, what a waste of effort some contributors must be thinking...

not sure where the ticker was come to think of it - but i do agree, it's pity those threads appear to be lost

Marty/Kass/any other forums users, we do value your contributions and I'm looking into possible ways to allow access to at least some of the archived forum material. I'll let you know as soon as this is resolved.

Well, thank for your efforts Mr Lloyd... we'll see if they will bear any fruits... But I have to stress that I find the layout of the new COMMUNITY section of the website very hard to navigate. I am mainly interested in the forums (fora?) and in the old website you could easily see the list of ALL the threads etc. Now it might take you 20 minutes or half an hour to find the thread or subject you are interested in. And by that time you start thinking - I am not coming back here nomore... Could you please review the oulay of the COMMUNITY section with clear indexes and lists of letters, threads and subjects - which have become standard on the web - without the need of going about clicking here and there and ending up nowhere?

Hi Tom
Why is that if you post comments with breaks in your piece to seperate paragraphs, no paragraphs appear?

The short answer is I'm not sure. There are various things I'm trying to get sorted out with the forums - including access to some kind of archive.
The lack of paragraphs does make posts hard to read, and I'll see what can be done. I also think it would be useful to be able to add links, so I'll raise that as well.
If there is anything else you think would be useful let me know and I'll look into it.

When I saw the countdown clock ticking away on the old forum to tell members the new forum was about to come live, I thought it was a ‘done deal’ and there wasn’t much point in commenting on how I would like to see the new forum shaped. My initial response on seeing the new forum was therefore one of great disappointment. That said, having now had time to navigate my way the new forum, an interesting plus point is that you can now comment on more issues than those on the forum message boards. Like any new brush I suppose it will take time to wear in. Has anyone else had trouble uploading their photo to their profile? For some reason the forum site tells me that 40pc of my photo is uploaded and it doesn’t reach 100pc. Is there a way round this?

Without doubt this new style forum is dreadful. Not only have we lost all the old threads with no warning, the format is abysmal. Text encompasses only one quarter of the width of the screen making comments very difficult to read. The overall effort looks like it was made by a 12 year old. Actually some 12 olds can be very web literate. So maybe a 5 year old? It was just incredible how everyone had their identities, posts and archive just deleted in some kind of Pol Pot style year zero mass killing. I work in online publishing and if my company did this we would be out of business.

Thanks for the semi-constructive criticism. As mentioned elsewhere we may be able to reinstate some of the old forums - if there are any that were still in use (not many appeared to be) then let me know. All subscriber data has been transferred across - so if you want to get into metaphor I think we are talking relocation not execution.
On formatting, I can see it is hard to read longer posts, but this is probably more to do with the lack of paragraph breaks rather than column widths, and our developers are looking into this. Most people find narrow columns easier to read - you'll notice newspapers don't generally run lines across the whole page.

Tom, any idea why the site only tells me 40pc of my picture is uploaded to my profile, yet no picture appears?

Hi Alan, I'm not sure. There used to be something that told you what percentage of your profile was complete - is that the 40 per cent thing? I haven't had any problems uploading pics, but if you are still struggling email me the pic and your log in details and I'll see if I can figure out why it isn't working - tom.lloyd@insidehousing.co.uk

in general I like the new site, job search is quicker than the old site, and the talkboard looks a lot better, I'm sure when the teething problems are sorted it will be more improved still

I’m sure I’m not the only one to notice that last week was pretty quiet as far as articles posted on the main page were concerned. The last 24 hours on the other hand has seen a flurry of activity with an abundance of information for members to take in. Any chance of the top brass spreading it out in future; doing so would certainly make it easy for us to digest.

Hi Tom,
is it possible to delete a comment once made? In one of the threads one of my comments appears twice (I must have mistakenly post twice) can I delete one copy? How it's done?

You can't delete or edit existing posts I'm afraid. I can change the status of one of them so it isn't live, if you let me know where it is. You can email me if that is easier, tom.lloyd@insidehousing.co.uk.
