Women in housing WE NEED YOU!

On 11 February Inside Housing is publishing its first annual Women in Housing special. A major part of this is an anonymous survey of our female readers which aims to find out how they rate housing as a sector that promotes and develops female talent. These are just three of the questions we’re asking:

•    Is there a glass-ceiling for women working in the housing sector?
•    Did your employer make life easy or difficult for you when returning to work after having a baby?
•    Do you think the women in your organisation are paid the same as men doing the same role?

  • we dont need a specific 'men in housing' we get enough information on the 'men' every single week in Inside Housing, at every conference, and at every event

  • Im remaining anon here as Melvin has a point!

    The highest paid CEO is female.

    I hope IH is carefully analysing the data it receives as women tend to be the majority of staff in sheltered housing and in supported housing.

    The headline questions above also strongly suggest a skewed and biased hypothesis which causes concern for any notion of equality and equity

    On the face of it there are more women in the sector - but primarily in the customer facing roles, the admin, and anything else that is low paid and difficult to get a school leaver to do well.

    It should be celebrated that the token female executive - you can do HR sweetie and you can do Comms luv - is becoming less the norm as indeed the number of leadership positions occupied by women is growing.

    The day when the questions no longer need to be asked will be the day when the balance has been struck.

    Yes PSR!

    'Token' female execs are definatley becoming less 'token' and i feel, especially in our sector, we genuinely (on the whole) hire based on whether the person can do the job better than anyone else who applied.

    i think however, having read some articles on this very site, the lack of women in senior positions is simply because less women go for the top jobs, whereas men "take a punt" at anything i beleive the quote said. which i suppose makes sence, men tend to be a little bit more ballsy as a stereotype. thats, just uncontrolable.


    celebrating housing equality aside, i agree with Melvin, IH are not showing equality, there have been strings of arguably (i beilieve some are) sexist articles (especially the article titles)
    With no sign of IH showing some balance and planning some on men.
