Detailed planning permission has been granted for the first phase of the regeneration of the South Acton estate in Ealing.
The London Borough of Ealing has given a joint venture between housing association London and Quadrant and developer Countryside Properties the go ahead to build 167 homes.
Of these 80 will be for private sale, and 87 for affordable housing. They will range from one bedroom flats to four bedroom houses, and the scheme will include the first elements of a combined heat and power and photovoltaic energy centre.
Work is underway on a further planning application, covering 130 homes, with an outline application for the remaining 2,600 homes expected in late 2011.
David Montague, chief executive of L&Q, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be in a position to start this highly significant redevelopment which is keenly anticipated by the residents.’
Hitesh Tailor, cabinet member for housing at Ealing, said: ‘This is a really significant step forward in a very important project to revitalise South Acton. I’m sure residents will be as pleased as I am that the next phase in this long-awaited regeneration scheme can now get underway.’
