Brentwood Borough Council signs £1bn JV with construction firm #ukhousing

Morgan Sindall, one of the country’s biggest contractors, announced that its investments arm had struck a 50:50 joint venture deal with the council. The partnership could run for 30 years.

The contract will see Morgan Sindall Investments partner with the council on the delivery of a number of projects, including housing developments, public spaces, and commercial and leisure facilities on the council’s land.

The contract is the largest that Brentwood Borough Council has undertaken. The authority will now act as a central purchasing body, through which other local authorities in Essex may procure similar partnerships with Morgan Sindall Investments.

The joint venture will retain and manage certain properties that are developed, and there will be opportunities for the council to acquire properties, including affordable housing.

It is the fourth long-term deal of this kind signed by Morgan Sindall Investments after the company struck similar deals with Slough Council, Bournemouth Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council.

John Morgan, chief executive of Morgan Sindall, said: “We are very pleased to have been selected by Brentwood Borough Council as its preferred JV partner. It underscores Morgan Sindall Investments’ position as a leading local authority JV development partner and builds on the excellent work that we have achieved in Bournemouth and Slough.”
