Tyne Housing Association appoints new chief executive #ukhousing

Mr McKinlay, 47, previously spent five years in the role of area director (North) at the homeless charity Depaul UK and has also been working on secondment at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government as a specialist advisor on homelessness.

The appointment comes as the Tyneside-based housing association gets set to prioritise the delivery of housing and support for vulnerable people.

Commencing his new role in January, Mr McKinlay takes over from Kevin Lowry who has been acting as interim chief executive for the past year.

In my career, I have been lucky enough to witness first-hand some of the very best practice approaches which enable the most vulnerable in society to flourish,” said Mr McKinlay.

“With service users, staff and board members involved in Tyne’s recruitment process, I am confident that we have a shared ambition to position Tyne as a leader in this complex field of work. I look forward to discussing our approach with all partners, commissioners and other stakeholders in the coming months to set out an ambitious and collaborative vision.”

Graham Brown, chair of Tyne Group, stated: “Over the past year we have reviewed our business objectives and have re-affirmed our commitment to our core clients. Tyne plays a vital role in addressing homelessness and rough sleeping in the area.

“We will continue to support vulnerable, isolated people and will seek to expand the range of services and accommodation we are able to offer. We are delighted to have recruited a new chief executive officer of the calibre of Steve.”

A spokesperson for the Welsh Government said: “We know that housing associations in Wales share our commitment to building more affordable homes.

“However, we are conscious of the demands that higher rents can place on tenants, which is why have taken this measured approach.”

Update: at 17.36pm 12/12/18 a comment from the Welsh Government was added to the story.
