Homes England has awarded a contract for 600 homes in Kidderminster to Galliford Try Partnerships.
The housebuilding arm of the contractor has secured a £23m contract to develop the Lea Castle Hospital site in the Worcestershire town.
The deal, which was secured via Homes England’s delivery partner panel, follows Galliford Try Partnerships’ announcement in April 2019 that it will be building a further 850 homes with Homes England across four other sites.
The NHS closed Lea Castle Hospital in 2008 and Homes England has since secured a resolution to grant planning consent for the 600 new homes. The brownfield site is located just north of Kidderminster town centre and benefits from close proximity to Blakedown Station, which provides direct services to Birmingham.
James Warrington, regional managing director for central and north at Galliford Try Partnerships, said: “We are very pleased to be working in partnership again with Homes England to transform this derelict site that has been redundant for a number of years.
“We have now entered into contract on almost 1,500 homes with Homes England already this year, exemplifying our reputation as a leading partnership organisation.”
The new contract win comes as Galliford Try reached a deal with Bovis Homes to sell its housebuilding arm – which also includes Linden Homes – in a deal worth £1.075bn.
It comes after Bovis revealed that it had agreed “high-level terms” to buy the two divisions in September.
Shareholder meetings at both companies will be completed by 2 December, with the deal expected to be fully completed around 3 January next year.
The deal will be funded through a £300m cash payment, a £100m private debt placing to Bovis and a £675m share issue of Bovis shares to existing Galliford Try shareholders on a pro rata basis.
