Housing association gives interim boss permanent role after governance upgrade
Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) has installed its interim chief executive in the job permanently, less than a month after regaining the top regulatory grading for governance.
Mark Pearson, who joined the group in December 2017 as deputy chief executive, was made interim boss in March last year.
He replaced Lisa Pickard who left the 1,500-home landlord after six-and-a-half years.
The association was downgraded to ‘G2 V1’ in July last year – indicating it still complied with the Regulator of Social Housing’s standards but needed to improve its governance – after it self-referred over problems with electrical safety compliance.
However the regulator restored its G1 V1 rating last month, as it found that the group’s board reporting on health and safety had been “strengthened”.

Mike Gaskell, chair of LYHA, said Mr Pearson has been “pivotal in transforming the culture and operations at LYHA, prioritising engagement with customers and swiftly delivering service improvements throughout the business”.
Mr Pearson previously worked at Muir Group as assistant director of communities and customer service and has been in the social housing sector for over 21 years.
He said: “This is an exciting time for LYHA as we look to build on the successes of the past few months.”
