Housing minister confirms dates for Christmas truce on evictions
Bailiffs will be told not to enforce possession orders in England between 11 December and 11 January 2021, the housing minister has confirmed.
In an answer to a written parliamentary question, Christopher Pincher confirmed the dates for the Christmas truce on evictions, which was first announced by the government earlier this month.
Mr Pincher said the guidance being issued to bailiffs will also instruct them not to enforce possession orders in places where local public restrictions have been introduced by the government through legislation.
The government has already said that evictions should not be carried out in areas which are subject to local lockdown measures.

This week the eviction ban that has been in place since March came to an end, meaning courts are now able to hear possession cases again.
At the end of August, the government extended the eviction notice period to six months, however this does not apply to those who were served notices before the new measures were introduced.
It also does not apply to those who have more than six months’ arrears or are being evicted for anti-social behaviour.
Last week, London mayor Sadiq Khan called on the government to introduce better protections for renters ahead of the ban being lifted, such as grants for those who had fallen into arrears and the power to implement a two-year rent freeze in the capital.
