London association promises to improve after concerns in Grenfell borough #ukhousing

Notting Hill Genesis vows to improve service for its residents living in the London borough where the Grenfell Tower fire happened #ukhousing

Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) carried out its first resident satisfaction survey following its merger in December last year.

The satisfaction survey resulted in 65.2% for overall satisfaction and 5.9 out of 10 for repairs from approximately 1,000 responding residents.

Following this, the 64,000-home housing association emailed residents last week to say it is taking steps to improve its performance in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea after specific concerns were raised.

It said: “In the Kensington and Chelsea area we know that repairs are not always delivered as quickly and efficiently as we would like them to be. This is a priority area for us and we are committed to improving this.”

The association, which owns 3,500 general needs homes and 225 temporary housing units in the borough, recently met local Labour MP Emma Dent Coad to discuss the concerns.

A spokesperson for NHG said: “We want our residents to know we are available to help them and that we are listening to their concerns. We want to fix things that are not going well and are constantly aiming to improve our services.”

It will hold a specific day surgery in the borough for tenants to discuss issues. “Those who cannot attend meetings or surgeries can still arrange for us to meet them in their home or at a local base,” the spokesperson added.

NHG came under pressure from Ms Dent Coad in February when she published a report accusing it of being “the worst offender in Kensington” in terms of housing disrepair.

Notting Hill Housing – which merged with Genesis to become NHG – leased temporary housing units in Grenfell Tower with eight Notting Hill residents living in these units died in the fire.
