Surveyors predict private landlords will leave the UK housing market in substantial numbers over the coming year, and cyanide is found in insulation used in sheltered accommodation.
In the news
Private sector landlords are likely to pull out of the housing market over the coming year because of policy changes such as a stamp duty surcharge, the BBC reports.
Nearly two-thirds or surveyors told the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors more landlords will exit the market than join it, which is likely to lead to a rise in private rents.
There’s been more bad press for Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation with The Guardian reporting that the chief executive who recently stood aside is still on full pay.
And the BBC reports cyanide found in the insulation at Grenfell Tower has also been found in sheltered accommodation. Celotex RS5000 was withdrawn from the market following the Grenfell Tower fire, in which victims suffered cyanide poisoning. The BBC discovered the insulation is used in 34 homes in Havering, including nine sheltered accommodation units for older people.
