A week in the life of… @ATripleA79, head of development delivery at @catalysthousing #UKhousing

Monday

This week kicked off with a meeting to discuss the future of a large affordable development that we’ve been working on. It’s a 100% affordable scheme, which is my favourite type because this is exactly what I’m here to do.

Working on projects like this one shows me that we can make it happen and that the private sale development, cross-subsidy model can deliver an affordable homes development (although we would always like to see more grant funding coming into the sector).

Catalyst has recently put a lot of emphasis on our purpose – ‘homes people love’ – and I see my role as integral to that.

I’ve got a responsibility to make sure the new homes and communities we are building are ones that people love, and can be happy in.

Tuesday

Today was an extremely rewarding day for me. I carried out reviews for two members of my team and both went incredibly well.

The two of them have very different career aspirations and I find a lot of joy in working with them to carve out a path to progression and career growth.

Managing people can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but helping people reach their goals is what I most enjoy.

Wednesday

I’ve found that working in development often demands flexibility and the best laid plans for the day can be altered by a single email.

Several audit requests dropped in at the same time this morning, plus I had to cope with a member of the team being on sick leave. I also didn’t receive the responses I needed to a difficult situation.

It can be tough occasionally, but the passion I have for my job sees me through times like these. At least reaching the midway point of the week is a nice reward.

Thursday

Today was a much-needed exciting day after yesterday’s difficult one. I had our department’s new project briefing meeting first thing in the morning, and it’s always good to hear about more affordable homes in the pipeline.

Today also had me doing some policy development work, which should result in more effective appraisals and budget management practices for the business. I can get frustrated when I think things take longer than they should, so it’s a good feeling to streamline a process and speed things up.

Friday

Today is a focused day and I’m grateful to have fewer meetings and that the emails aren’t coming in quite as fast. I spent today pulling together data to complete a scheme presentation, and I’m excited and nervous for the outcome on Monday.

This is the culmination of a week of great teamwork and I’m feeling good heading into the weekend.
