What does your job involve?

I work alongside the volunteer and employability co-ordinator, identifying volunteer and work experience opportunities for our people and customers, while helping our volunteers and work placement candidates get closer to employment. I also work with our ‘Talent Match’ programme to help 18 to 24-year-olds into further education, training or employment.

How did you get into housing?

I was volunteering for Acis Group within the income team – the volunteering opportunity had been set up and arranged by my predecessor.

Four months into my volunteering it was mentioned that the job was becoming available and that I should apply, based on the amount of time I had been volunteering with not only Acis but two other organisations.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the fact that I have something different to do every day. I don’t have a set task list, which is nice as I like the challenge of different tasks.

And the worst part?

I don’t have a worst part to my job, although sometimes the office can be a little too quiet as everybody is deep in concentration. Being a chatty person, I do find it hard to be quiet for long periods of time.

What would you change about the housing sector?

With the waiting list for social housing continuing to grow, I would like to increase the amount of available social housing to keep up with demand. Acis is committed to developing at least 150 homes each year.

If you could be prime minister for the day, what would you do?

I’m a massive Batman fan, so if I could be prime minister for the day I would declare a national ‘Batman Movie Marathon’ day to be held once a month, where every TV channel has to show every Batman movie ever made.

What’s the most private thing you’re willing to admit to your colleagues?

The most private thing I think I would disclose is that I suffer with mental health issues. Some people aren’t sure how to take people with mental health issues and there are a lot of labels and stigma attached to mental health.

The one thing I would say to people is to label jars, not people – and that I am not my illness.
