More than 2,000 people have taken part in the Chartered Institute of Housing’s (CIH) project to gather research for the upcoming Social Housing Green Paper.
Nearly 200 groups attended online workshops for the trade body’s Rethinking Social Housing project, including tenants, councillors and housing professionals.
The sessions, held over the past two months, were intended to gather views on the future of social housing policy to help inform the review currently being carried out by the government.
Another 760 people filled out the accompanying online survey, with tenants making up around half of respondents.
Terrie Alafat, chief executive of the CIH, said: “We are absolutely delighted and quite overwhelmed with the response that we have had to the workshops and to our survey.
“We said from the beginning that it was crucial for the people who live and work in social housing to lead the debate about its future, and it is fantastic to see so many people doing exactly that.
“We are especially pleased to see such a good balance of tenants and housing professionals get involved.”
The next stage of the project will aim to gauge public perceptions of social housing, with findings due to be published in a report in the summer.
Rethinking Social Housing is sponsored by Sovereign, Home Group, Peabody, Incommunities, Optivo, PA Housing, Riverside Group and South Liverpool Homes.
