Catalyst appoints new chief executive
Catalyst Housing has appointed Ian McDermott to take over as chief executive at the end of the year.
Current chief executive Rod Cahill is set to retire at the end of 2018, after 26 years of leading the large London housing association.
Mr McDermott will be leaving Aldwyck Housing Group, where he has been chief executive since October 2016. Before that, he spent five years as chief operating officer at Sanctuary.
He has also been chief executive of Shaftesbury Housing Group, Riverhaven and Stonebridge Housing Action Trust.

Before joining Catalyst, he will work closely with Mr Cahill “to ensure a smooth transition”, Catalyst said.
Richard Brown, chair of Catalyst’s board, said: “Catalyst Housing is delighted to appoint Ian McDermott as the organisation’s chief executive. Ian has a wealth of experience at chief executive level in the housing sector, creating and growing customer-centric, high performing organisations.
“Ian is ideally placed to continue the excellent work of our departing chief executive, Rod Cahill, in using our strong financial base to build more affordable homes, further improve customer experience and grow the organisation in partnership with others.”
While in post at Sanctuary, Mr McDermott was involved in the association’s merger with Cosmopolitan, which nearly collapsed in 2012 and 2013.
Mr McDermott said: “I am delighted to be joining Catalyst. It is a great organisation and I feel privileged to take over from Rod Cahill, one of the most respected figures in the housing sector.
“I very much look forward to working with the Catalyst team, and their stakeholders, to build on very firm foundations and deliver an ambitious agenda for the future.”
