Civitas Social Housing donated the full £6,500 of funding requested which will support the Choir with No Name’s Big Christmas Singalong in Brighton on December 15.

Nine other supporters, some of them anonymous provided a total of £640, taking total donations so far to £7,140. The Choir with No Name runs choirs for homeless and marginalised people, with four choirs currently operating – two in London and one each in Birmingham and Liverpool.

The £6,500 will support travel and accommodation costs of the choirs for the trip to Brighton.

Marie Benton, chief executive of the Choir with No Name, said: “Our Christmas gig is by far the highlight of our year, with choir members and audience alike singing their hearts out and feeling part of something very special, at what can be a tough time of year for our members.

“We are extremely grateful to Civitas for helping us bring all four of our choirs together at the Brighton Dome, and we can guarantee that we’ll fill it to the rafters with festive cheer and give our members a truly unforgettable experience.”

Michael Wrobel, chair of Civitas Social Housing, said: “Civitas is very pleased to be able to support the Inside Housing Christmas appeal and through this the excellent work of the Choir with No Name – helping to build the confidence and skills of those who take part.”

Emma Maier, editor of Inside Housing, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Civitas is supporting our Christmas appeal with such a generous gift. The charity does some really amazing work and we are keen to encourage landlords to make a donation too - every penny will help the choir and its members achieve even more.”

Funds raised exceeding the target will go towards supporting the choirs’ rehearsals and other regular work. You can donate to the appeal on the Big Christmas Singalong JustGiving page. Tickets to the event in Brighton can be purchased for £12 from the Choir with No Name’s website, with any profits donated to support the choirs, as well as local Brighton charities The Clock Tower Sanctuary and Brighton Housing Trust.
