Clarion hires group development director from private sector #ukhousing

Richard Cook will join Clarion’s executive team in February, leading the association’s development team which plans to deliver 1,600 homes by the end of this financial year.

Mr Cook joins from Lendlease Europe, where he was head of residential and was responsible for delivering 1,000 homes per year.

He joined Lendlease in 2010 as head of delivery for design and build contracts, and has also worked for other major private sector construction companies such as Mace and George Wimpey (now Taylor Wimpey).

In an interview with Inside Housing earlier this month, Clare Miller, Clarion’s chief executive, said the organisation could put more focus on delivering homes this year after work to resolve issues on Circle’s troubled repairs contract hit the company’s development work last year.

Clarion aims to build 5,000 homes a year in the coming years.

Its pipeline includes the £1.2bn regeneration of Merton; a 7,500-home new town in Honingham, Norfolk; and a joint venture for a 2,600-home scheme as part of Ebbsfleet’s new garden city.

Mr Cook said: “I am really pleased to be joining Clarion at a time when the need for more new housing has probably never been more acute.

“Clarion has the strength and capacity to deliver at scale, providing real opportunities for place-making and creating thriving communities.”
