Clarion Housing Group has opened applications for the housing association’s William Sutton Prize.
The scheme, which is in its second year, is seeking applications from individuals presenting an innovative concept, product or service that will have a positive social impact on a community.
The prize fund totals £20,000 for each of the two categories on offer: social innovation, and placemaking and affordable housing design.
The social innovation project will be awarded to an organisation which has developed a groundbreaking new product, concept or service which makes a positive social impact on disadvantaged groups or communities.
The placemaking and affordable housing design prize will be awarded to those who have developed a groundbreaking concept that will improve quality of life and support the well-being of residents and communities.
The William Sutton Prize is named after the Victorian entrepreneur who founded one of Clarion’s pre-merger predecessors.
Last year, community interest company Micro Rainbow International took the top prize for social entrepreneurship and innovation for a proposal aimed at increasing the number of safe homes for vulnerable LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees.
VeloCity, a group that works to redesign villages to have denser housing, promote exercise and end car dependency, was awarded the excellence in social housing design and placemaking prize.
Deadline for applications is 31 July.
