Scottish housing association @IRVINEHA has appointed former president of @CIHhousing @strangparkhead as its chair #UKhousing

Jim Strang will head the board at Irvine Housing Association, part of large Liverpool-based landlord Riverside Group, from September.

He will replace current chair Duncan McEachran, who is stepping down as he reaches the end of the maximum five-year tenure.

Mr Strang was previously elected president of the CIH, campaigning vociferously on the issue of domestic abuse during his time in the role in 2018/19.

He was also previously chief executive of 1,600-home Parkhead Housing Association, based in Glasgow, between 2007 and his retirement in 2020.

A 40-year career in housing saw him work for several local authorities, starting at Glasgow City Council in 1978.

Mr Strang also sits on the boards of Ferguslie Park Housing Association, Homelessness Network Scotland and the New Tannahill Centre.

Paul Hillard, managing director of Irvine Housing Association, said: “We would like to welcome Jim to Irvine Housing Association and we’re delighted to have appointed a new chair with such a wealth of housing experience and expertise.

“I look forward to working closely with Jim to navigate the many challenges and opportunities that will arise during the next phase of our development.

“I would also very much like to thank our outgoing chair Duncan McEachran for his unwavering service to the board over the past five years and wish him every success going forward.”

Irvine owns around 2,300 homes across North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway, with plans to expand into South Ayrshire later this year.

It was founded in 1993 and became part of 56,000-home Riverside in 2011.

Mr Strang said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining such a dynamic organisation and I look forward to working with the team at Irvine Housing Association and more widely with The Riverside Group.”
