A group of 25 social landlords in Greater Manchester has confirmed its plan to establish a development joint venture.
The company will form part of Greater Manchester Housing Providers’ (GMHP) ambition to build 16,000 homes over the next five years, as laid out in the consortium’s new “manifesto”.
Inside Housing revealed in January that discussions for a joint venture in the region were underway.
Working in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), the development vehicle will aim to deliver around 500 homes a year.
“This manifesto sets out our ambitions to play a major role meeting the key challenges facing the region and putting Greater Manchester at the forefront of tackling the country’s housing crisis,” said Jon Lord, chair of GMHP and chief executive of Bolton at Home.
“With the help of public and private sector partners, together with new and equitable access to land, housing providers in Greater Manchester are determined to face this head on in our region’s inimitable style, leading the way with new and innovative solutions.
“Working together, we have the capacity, determination and infrastructure to deliver this.”
The manifesto, titled ‘Our Ambition to Deliver’, includes commitments to create more than 1,000 new apprenticeships and help tackle homelessness and rough sleeping by working with private rented sector landlords to provide better temporary accommodation.
Its development target is double the 8,000 homes built by GMHP members in the past five years.
