Haringey Council picks Lendlease for £1bn scheme

The council voted on Tuesday to select Lendlease, which is already the partner for its controversial £2bn development vehicle, to deliver 2,500 homes on High Road West opposite the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Of the homes to be provided, 750 will be affordable – 30% of the total.

The selection of Lendlease as the council’s partner for the Haringey Development Vehicle (HDV) has caused consternation in some circles within the borough, in part because of the developer’s failure to deliver more than 82 affordable homes in the 2,704-home regeneration of the Heygate Estate in Southwark.

This development, however, is separate from the HDV and is different in nature, with Lendlease acquiring the land itself rather than transferring it into the jointly owned enterprise.

Alan Strickland, cabinet member for housing and regeneration at Haringey Council, said: “I’m proud that local people have made such a big contribution in helping shape the plans which will transform north Tottenham on a site right next to the revamped Spurs stadium.

“Tottenham is London’s most dynamic and important regeneration area and this is an exciting next step in our ambitious plans for the area. We now look forward to working with Lendlease whose expertise will be crucial in delivering a development which will bring huge benefits to residents and businesses.”

Dan Labbad, chief executive officer for international operations at Lendlease, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver such an ambitious project. The transformation of High Road West will establish the area as a world-class cultural and leisure destination and we look forward to working with Haringey Council, the local community and other stakeholders to realise this vision for north Tottenham.”
