Members of staff from community-based housing associations across the country are spending the day volunteering in their areas as part of a campaign to highlight the social impact of registered providers.
The organisations have pledged to give more than 2,800 hours of community time for the initiative, which is being run by membership body Placeshapers.
Placeshapers had set an initial target of 1,000 hours for the initiative, which it has called We Care Day, but was overwhelmed by the response from companies.
Its chair, Sinéad Butters, chief executive of Aspire, said: “While we take great care in providing high-quality homes that are safe and well-maintained, we also focus on the people who live in them, working with them and our wider partners to ensure we provide what’s needed. We Care shows what this means on a day-to-day basis.”
At Cross Keys Homes, staff are using volunteer time to give its family and children’s centre a makeover while at East End Homes, the team is working with an environmental charity and corporate volunteers to improve green space in the Isle of Dogs.
At Worthing Homes, staff are doing estate tidy-ups while Origin are doing a foodbank collection.
Placeshapers is also producing an impact report to show the range of services landlords provide.
