Neal Ackcral, currently Hyde’s chief property officer, will take up the role of interim chief executive starting from 1 July 2021.

Mr Ackcral takes over the role vacated by Peter Denton, who was last week announced as the next chief executive of the government’s housing delivery agency, Homes England.

Hyde said that the process of recruiting a permanent replacement will start immediately and that the position will be open to both external and internal candidates in a “robust competitive recruitment process”.

The housing association said it hopes to announce the new chief executive in the autumn.

Mr Ackcral said: “I’m very proud to have been asked to take on this role until a permanent appointment is made. We have a lot to do and it is important that we carry on delivering more homes, safer homes and energy-efficient homes as well as improving our services and helping our customers.”

He has more than 30 years of experience working in the housing sector and has served as an executive director at Viridian Housing and Optivo. Prior to joining Hyde, Mr Ackcral was director of property at fellow G15 landlord One Housing.

Alan Collett, chair of Hyde’s board, said: “Hyde has a hugely strong and capable executive and senior leadership team built up by Peter over the last couple of years, ably supported by a dedicated, skilled, engaged and enthusiastic staff base. This means that under Neal’s guidance we’ll continue to deliver the objectives of our strategic plan, providing decent, energy-efficient, safe homes with a customer-first approach.

“I’m delighted that Neal has accepted the role as interim chief executive and his skills and experience will stand us in good stead over the coming months.”
