One of England’s largest housing associations has teamed up with a house builder to seek planning approval for a £400m regeneration in Kent.
Housing association Hyde has submitted an application together with Countryside for permission to build 1,400 homes at Rochester Riverside.
The two companies were selected by Medway Council, whose regeneration programme includes the Rochester Riverside area. The development would also provide a primary school and nursery, a hotel and 1,200 square metres of commercial space.
David Gannicott, group director of business development at Hyde, said: “We are delighted to be submitting our proposals for this exciting new development in historic Rochester. This is a great opportunity to help tackle the housing shortage in the South East and ultimately will provide more people with a roof over their head so they can make a home.”
Neil Miller, senior development manager for the Thames Gateway at the Homes and Communities Agency, said: “Countryside and Hyde have put together an impressive proposal for the site that takes into account the opinions of local stakeholders.
“We are looking forward to working with them to transform this derelict area of Rochester and are committed to ensuring the development meets our aims of providing high quality homes, including genuinely affordable housing.”
