Lambeth Borough Council has approved the redevelopment of a council estate which could pave the way for up to 1,300 homes.
The local authority’s cabinet last night approved plans for the demolition of the 460-home Central Hill Estate.
The council said those homes would be demolished and re-provided, alongside a further 500-750 homes.
The development will be led by the council, through Homes for Lambeth, and not by an external private developer.
Detailed planning work – including choosing a development management team – will now be carried out.
No building work will start until 2019/20 at the earliest.
