Large 35,000-home landlord appoints new chair

Radian has appointed experienced housing figure Wayne Morris as its new chair.

Large 35,000-home landlord appoints new chair #ukhousing

The landlord confirmed that Mr Morris was promoted from his non-executive role on the board at the start of this month, taking over from previous chair Lindy Morgan.

Radian, which recently merged with Yarlington to become a 35,000-home landlord, has also named Joanna Makinson as its new vice chair.

The enlarged Radian Group now covers all of the South and South west of England between Brighton and Bristol. It has plans to build 10,000 homes across the next decade.

Mr Morris has spent three decades working in the affordable housing sector including as chief executive for a number of landlord based in the South of England.

His last major role was as the chief executive of Spectrum Housing, who merged with Sovereign in 2016. He spent six years as the boss of the group between 2007 and 2013. He was also chief executive of Spinnaker Housing group before it merged with Spectrum to become an 18,000-home association.

Since leaving his full-time roles, Mr Morris has had a number of non-executive roles on the boards of large housing associations, including PA Housing Group, Yarlington and latterly Radian.

Joanna Makinson who has also been promoted from her previous role as the chair of Radian’s Treasury on the board is currently the chief executive of Bristol Community Health CIC.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Morris said: “Ahead of my appointment, I have spent the past two months putting plans in place, focusing on the direction of our organisation and our key priorities.

“The integration of Radian and Yarlington is progressing well and we will shortly become one organisation with a shared identity and updated corporate strategy. I am keen to ensure we move forward with pace to deliver our strategic objectives.

“This will include investing more in our customers and communities to help tackle the housing, employment and homelessness crises, and ensuring we implement progressive measures for equality and diversity.”
