Merthyr Valleys Homes appoints new chief executive #ukhousing

Michelle Reid, currently chief executive of 1,850-home association Cynon Taf Community Housing, will replace Mike Owen, who is retiring.

Merthyr Valleys Homes, which has a stock of around 4,150 homes, was Wales’ first tenant and employee mutual housing association.

Ms Reid said: “It’s a huge honour to be given the opportunity to take this fantastic mutual organisation into the next stage of its journey, working in partnership with the members, tenants, staff and partners, and supported by an outstanding senior management team.

“While I will be sad to leave my brilliant colleagues and volunteers at the Cynon Taf Group, I’m looking forward to supporting the [Merthyr Valleys Homes] board and democratic body to sustain and build upon the successes already achieved, and to look to the future with confidence.”

Nicola Evans, chair of Merthyr Valleys Homes, said: “Michelle’s values and commitment to our mutual way of working resonates strongly with what we are all about at Merthyr Valleys Homes.

“I’m looking forward to working with her to continue the excellent work that our mutual has already achieved.”

Joy Kent, chair of Cynon Taf Community Housing, said: “Obviously we are really sad to lose Michelle. She has been an outstanding chief executive.

“She has worked so hard with the board and staff team to get us into the place we are now with some great new approaches and systems set up, and some really exciting and ambitious plans for the future.”

Cynon Taf Community Housing is yet to recruit a replacement chief executive.
