Developers who fail to build out land could lose planning permission, The Times reports today
In the news
The Times has a raft of housing-related coverage today off the back of an interview with housing secretary Sajid Javid.
Mr Javid warned of a “muscular” response to developers who fail to build out permissioned land – with the paper reporting builders could lose permission on unused land if they miss construction targets.
Meanwhile, The Times runs a story claiming that top Conservatives are calling Theresa May a “nimby”, as well as an analysis of the causes of the housing crisis and an opinion piece on how to put it right by building taller.
Elsewhere, an investigation by the BBC through the Freedom of Information Act has found 14 councils with 170,000 tenants are gearing up to give payments to tenants after the landmark ruling against Southwark Council in 2016.
Another 12 London councils said they have similar rate collection deals with water companies but have not set money aside.
In other news, The Independent and the Huffington Post follow up on research from the Chartered Institute of Housing that 230,000 social rent homes are due to be lost between 2012 and 2020.
Read Inside Housing’s own report on the analysis here.

A national scandal. Includes 102,000 lost by conversions from social rent to "affordable". Housing providers should think hard about the long-term impact of doing this. t.co/KJTfKlgPG9
