A planning application has been submitted for what is being touted as Britain’s “largest fully modular housing scheme”, several publications have reported. The plans, submitted by Leeds City Council and contractor United Living, would see 28 homes constructed in nine months, writes website The Business Desk.
Labour MP Liam Byrne is calling for a “Kane’s Law” to prevent people from ending up rough sleeping, the BBC reports. The Birmingham MP wants new measures focused on prevention, which he has dubbed as “Kane’s Law” after Kane Walker, who died on the street.
The Guardian has a report about residents’ concerns over conditions in a tower block in Wandsworth, London managed by housing association A2Dominion.
Also in London, the Islington Tribune is reporting on protests by campaigners over the auctioning off of housing association homes. The piece includes quotes from Peabody and Clarion explaining the approach.
Often we hear about younger people renting privately because they can’t get on the housing ladder, known as ‘generation rent’. However, Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Grender has written a blog for Politics Home arguing that we should also be looking at greater security for the growing numbers of older people who are also stuck in the private rented sector.
A “battle” is underway for places on a £5bn major works framework which includes housing work, reports Construction Enquirer. The website reports that 23 are facing a fight to retain their places on the framework.
Thurrock Council has floated the idea of building 10,000 homes near the border of Basildon to meet its housing need, reports the Yellow Advertiser newspaper. Basildon Council is “preparing its response” according to the report.

Housing association First Choice Homes Oldham has apologised and withdrawn an eviction order that would have meant an 11-year-old boy moving out of his home after his mother’s death, the BBC has reported here.

Calderdale Council in Yorkshire has agreed plans to sell land for a £1 to Home Group to build more than 160 new homes, the Halifax Courier reports.
