The Wildlife Trusts publishes new guidance and concern over migrant homelessness and refugee housing
In the news
The Wildlife Trusts is talking housing this morning, with a new set of guidelines to make new housing developments animal friendly.
The charity is asking for community orchards, ’bat corridors’ and other critter-friendly elements to be incorporated into the design of new housing schemes. You can read its report here.
Meanwhile, there is controversy over housing for refugees, with The Guardian reporting that many are living in “filth and squalor”. Reporter John Harris met with a Sri Lankan family suffering the effects of damp and mould, which he reports here.
On a similar theme, Homeless Link has published a blog on migrant homelessness in England, covering the findings of a report which shows a rise in homelessness among new migrants.
“Without better access to good quality regulated immigration advice, resolving destitution is impossible,” it says.

RIP Neave Brown. Feisty, fearless and a staunch defender of social housing until the end. "I didn’t think I was designing social housing, but just housing. Good London housing.” t.co/fe9yYx1Ja2

We are very sad to hear that Neave Brown has died. Neave’s iconic designs for #Camden Council housing, including the pictured Alexandra & Ainsworth Estate, are a vital part of #Camden history & present, part of a legacy of building new council homes for our families. RIP Neave. pic.twitter.com/pRRJIbsann
