Newspapers focus on housing funding levels, the Help to Buy and the Grenfell Inquiry
“Tory council bosses threaten to revolt against PM over spending too little on new social housing” was the headline in The Sun on bank holiday Monday. The newspaper reports a Joseph Rowntree Foundation survey of 121 Conservative council leaders which shows seven in 10 don’t believe the £2bn announced by Theresa May last year for affordable housing is enough.
The Guardian reported the same story here.
The Grenfell Inquiry resumes today and The Guardian has a piece about anger over the lack of attendees. The Financial Times ran an opinion piece yesterday calling for “those responsible for social housing in the area” to be held accountable.

In other news, the Dundee Evening Telegraph newspaper has a story about a ‘surge’ in requests from residents for financial assistance from the council since welfare reforms were introduced.
The Independent has published analysis showing that the Help to Buy scheme is increasingly benefiting higher earners.
Website Estate Agent Today reports that Monmouthshire Housing Association has launched an online estate agency.
